Best of Online 2007

Posted on | February 1, 2008 |

The online world is a bottomless pit of facts, photos, videos and communities. One minute you’re looking for the latest news on Yahoo and the next thing you know you’re watching video clips of dramatic cuddly animals. We’ve clocked in thousands of online hours this year researching and visiting a vast array of sites, and we have narrowed down the Internet to what we consider the cream of the online crop 2007.

Coolest Useless Websites of ‘07

1. Unlimited Orange is a never-ending, fantastic, albeit useless, site filled with mesmerizing art and hidden games.

2. Dark Roasted Blend is a compilation of weird and wonderful facts you’ll never need to know.

Best Trend Blogs

Trend blogs supply fuel for the creative fire beneath many alternative marketing campaigns. They tap into global trends and concepts that keep our ideas on the cutting edge.

1. Trend Hunter is our numero uno pick when it comes to discovering the latest and greatest. They have predicted trends months in advance, like solar-powered LED snowsuits. Amazing!

2. The Cool Hunter

3. Neatorama

Top Industry Blogs

These marketing industry blogs keep us up-to-date with the latest new campaigns and breakthrough innovations in the industry. They provide insight into what works, what doesn’t, and what to look for in the future.

1. Mashable takes the first-place prize when it comes to online marketing news, which is no easy task given that the evolution of the online landscape is faster than Speed Racer.

2. Adrants

3. Ypulse

Best Tagging Sites

Tagging sites, officially called “folksonomies,” fully erupted onto the online scene this year. These sites allow you to collaboratively manage, create and spread content to others on the web.

1. StumbleUpon is the clear folksonomy winner for its ability to take the concept of online rating systems and word-of-mouth and run wild with it.

2. Digg

3. Del.icio.us

Top Viral Video of ‘07

There were a number of great viral videos this year, but our offiicial favorite was Chocolate Rain (some stay dry, and others feel the pain). This viral video managed to generate over 11 million hits, and dozens of parodies, to secure a coveted spot in the upper echelons of Youtube video history. It was also recently recreated as a national ad campaign for Dr. Pepper—more proof that mainstream media is picking up what’s going on in the Web 2.0 world.
