Word-of-mouth marketing is nothing new—people have been interested in recommendations from trusted sources since the dawn of man. However, the marketing industry has taken a fancy to capitalizing on this custom in recent years. In fact, in 2007, we saw WOM marketing become one of the leading alternative marketing strategies in use.

-WOM marketing is defined as dialogue about products and services between consumers.

-WOM marketing grew nearly 5 times faster than any other industry sector.

-68% of consumers trust product advice from their peers.

-Watch out for WOM marketing to be included in many brands’ marketing plans in 2008.

Might start making you wonder if your friend really likes that new brand of gum, or if s/he has another agenda.
